RAWALPINDI, May 24: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani on Friday said the district council members elected to special seats would be provided share in the next year’s development budget.

He was talking to the women members of the district council at a reception hosted for them by the district government.

The special seat members, specially women, had been demanding for special allocation in the budget since long so that they too could undertake development projects for the communities they represented.

The Nazim asked the women councillors to submit the projects they intended to undertake to the district government so that the same could be accommodated in the budgetary proposals.

Responding to another demand of the councillors, he said they would be permitted to monitor the working of women education and health institutions. A notification in this regard will be issued shortly.

The women councillors demanded honorarium equal to that being given to the union council Nazim.

They said they had to depend on their fathers, brothers or husbands for meeting the expenses of their activities, which adversely affected their performance.

Mr Kiani said the issue had been taken up with the governor and the National Reconstruction Bureau, and positive results were expected soon.

The women members of the district council had staged a walk out during the council’s last session, asking the government to specify their role. They had also protested against their symbolic presence in the council.
