BADIN, Sept 19: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday visited the 70-Mori Akram Wah where farmers of Badin and Kadhan subdivisions were holding a protest demonstration against proposed removal of a sanctioned siphon.

The farmers, Haji Sher, Shah Mohammad Shah, Abdul Jabbar Gopang and others, said Badin, Kadhan, Lowari Sharif and other towns would not receive water, even for drinking, if the 40-year old siphon was removed.

However, farmers of the Shadi subdivision, Ahsan Cheema, Aslam Kamboh and others, want the siphon removed because, according to them, it is disturbing the flow of water.

Dr Rahim after inspecting the spot ordered irrigation officials to submit a detailed report by December. Meanwhile, speaking as chief guest at the United Memon Jamaat of Pakistan's 24th convention on Saturday night at the Badin Gymkhana, Dr Rahim said the government would encourage schools imparting quality education and welfare centres in the province.
