GUJRANWALA, Sept 19: Some franchized buses are reportedly being plied with fake number plates on the GT Road between Kamoki and Ghakkhar towns.

The district administration and traffic police are reluctant to take action against them as the transport ministry is supporting the franchized bus service, it was learnt here on Sunday.

The source revealed that five out of 30 franchized buses plying on the GT Road had fake number plates. The buses running under fake number plates are: (LRT-9646), (LRT-9647), (LRT-9648), (LRT-9649) and (LRT-9650). The Motor Registration Authority, Lahore, had issued these numbers to Suzuki pick-up, Yamaha motorcycle, Toyota Corolla car and Vespa scooter, respectively.

It was stated that the Gujranwala Sadar police had impounded these buses on the complaint of Transport Society Gujranwala (TSG). But the buses were released by the police after a telephone call of the higher authority.

TSG public vehicle owners association president Abdul Hamid and his colleagues met with the DCO, also the RTA chairman, and informed him about the scam, but to no avail. When contacted, the staff of the RTA secretary said that sahib was busy in a meeting.
