GUJRAT, Sept 16: Norway Ambassador to Pakistan Janis Bjorn Kanavin along with a 16-member delegation from Standing Committee on Local Government from Norwegian parliament visited the Zahoor Palace and the district council.

The delegation visited Gujrat on the invitation of District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain to examine the functioning of the district government system introduced by the Musharraf government.

Ms Magnhilo Kleppa, the chairperson of the standing committee, was heading the members of the Norwegian local government. The delegation members included Per Sandberg, Karin Anderson, Peter Gitmark, Sigvald Oppoen Hansen, Kari Lise Holmberg, Reidar Sandal, Anita Appelthun Saele, Ivar Oostburg, Signe Oeye, Ingrio Sand, Stephen, Eli Fryjordet, Torill Johnson, Naufil Pal and journalist Ingeborg Eliassen.

The district Nazim briefed the delegation about the working and functioning of the district government system at the district council meeting room. Later, Chaudhry Shafaat gave a luncheon to the visiting delegation at Zahoor Palace.

MNA Rahman Naseer Marala, MPA Amir Usman, former MC chairman Chaudhry Tufail, Gujrat tehsil Nazim Saadat Nawaz Ajnala and his deputy Mian Haroon Masood, Sarai Alamgir tehsil Nazim Abdul Rahman and Kharian tehsil Naib Nazim Dr Javed Riaz were also present on the occasion.
