SIALKOT, Sept 15: The district government has introduced hi-tech laser land levelling technology, which is expected to enhance per-acre yield of crops.

At a special ceremony organized at Pakki Kotli (Daska) on Wednesday, District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed handed over to farmers nine hi-tech machines along with tractors and scrapers (three each for the Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur tehsils).

The Nazim told newsmen that the growers would be able to use this technology with the help of the agriculture department's trained operators. He said the distribution of these machines worth Rs12 million and tractors would help the growers enhance per-acre yield from 45 maunds to 55 maunds.

The distribution of these laser land-levelling machines had been done on a first come first get basis. Around 2,650 acres agricultural land would be levelled through the new machines.

The Nazim said the district government would soon introduce a special agricultural development scheme for establishing maximum green houses in the three tehsils.

The district government, he said, would also purchase three hi-tech seed grading plants for motivating the growers to ensure maximum sowing of quality seeds with the help of ultramodern farm machinery.

It would be provided to the growers by the district on subsidized token charges. Mr Javed also said the district administration had allocated special funds of Rs80 million for agricultural development here.

TRAFFIC POLICE: The district traffic police had challaned 8,898 vehicles and recovered Rs1.6 million in the form of fines from violators during the last month.

DSP (Traffic) Javed Nisar Basra told newsmen on Wednesday that the traffic police had challaned 101 vehicles for over-speeding, 951 for overloading, 199 for overloading of luggage, 236 for traffic signal violations, 450 for driving on wrong lanes, 16 for having tinted glass or screens, 242 for violation of line and zebra crossing, 42 for driving in prohibited areas, 1,572 for creating hurdles in traffic flow, 384 for reckless driving, 2,405 for having no driving licences and 188 for using pressure horns.

Besides, 461 vehicles were challaned for smoke-emitting, 213 for under-age driving, 301 for having no registration numbers, 42 for being misfit, 590 without route permits, 610 for wrong parking and 1,510 vehicles were challaned for violation of other traffic rules.
