MMA says country in for a major scam

Published September 10, 2004

LAHORE, Sept 9: The MMA raised a voice in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday against huge investment in the real estate business in the province. MPA Ehsanullah Waqas feared that the masses would lose no less than Rs100 billion at the hands of property mafia which , he alleged, was working in connivance with some army generals.

He regretted that Rs500 form for a housing society was being sold for Rs2,500 though not a single marla had so far been purchased by the society concerned for the housing scheme.

He recalled that earlier the innocent people had lost over Rs7 billion in finance corporations scam and Rs17 billion in cooperative societies scandal. Apprehending that the booming housing societies business could turn out to be the biggest ever scandal in the history of the country, Waqas urged the government to react swiftly.
