KARACHI, Sept 6: The opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has accused the treasury benches of supporting illegal immigrants in the province.

The deputy speaker's decision to prorogue the session in a haste was reflective of that, he added.

Addressing a news conference after the session on Monday, Mr Khuhro bitterly criticized the Deputy Speaker, Rahila Tiwana, for her decision and declared that his party would move another requisition on Tuesday for yet another session for discussing issues of vital interest of the province.

Mr Khuhro, who was flanked by Raza Rabbani, Makhdoom Jameeluz Zaman, Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, Fauzia Wahab and others at the press conference, claimed that he wanted to take up the matter of the issuance of CNICs to illegal immigrants because due to the illegal immigrants, the country was facing terrorism threats from abroad.

He pointed out that when the opposition tried to present its motion on the issue, the treasury benches and deputy speaker did not allow it to do so and the latter hastened to prorogue the session to avoid a discussion.

Mr Khuhro referred to the data compiled by the National Aliens Registration Authority (NARA), and said that there were more than two million illegal immigrants living in Sindh.

He maintained that the aliens were a burden on the provincial economy. Mr Khuhro said that proroguing the session on his substantive motion indicated that all partners in the Sindh coalition supported the illegal immigrants.
