FAISALABAD, Sept 2: Women councillors have accused the bureaucracy of hatching conspiracies to flop the local government system especially weaken the role and working of lady members.

Speaking to the participants of a conference held here under the aegis of a local NGO, the councillors said they had joined the LG system to resolve the problems of womenfolk, but they had almost failed to achieve the goal despite a lapse of three years.

They said all policies and plans were being evolved by the bureaucracy without the consultation of women councillors due to which they had no option except to attend the session of their respective councils and waste their time.

They alleged that some of the male representatives of the local councils were also treating the lady members as minorities due to which a number of them had preferred to stay at homes instead of taking part in the political setup.

Speaking at the conference, DCO Tahir Hussain claimed that the involvement of women in the national, provincial and local governments was a great achievement and a bold step on the part of the regime. This trend had opened new ways for the progress and prosperity of the womenfolk, he said.

Jaranwala tehsil Nazim Abdul Rehman, MPA Tasneem Rasheed, UC Nazims Sharafat Ali Khan, Tariq Bashir Ghauri, Manzoor, Shahid Mehmood, lady councillors Shazia Anjum, Shabnam Wahla, Fauzia Jaafar and others also addressed the conference.

TRAFFIC WALK: Police on Thursday organized a walk in the city to create awareness among the public about traffic rules.
