NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Sept 2: About 300 tail-end growers of the Khan Wahan minor, Kandiaro taluka, on Thursday staged a sit-in on the Mohabat Dero-Halani road to protest against the sale of their share of water by officials of the irrigation department.

Jafar Solangi, Azam Memon, Athar and Muneer complained that officials were selling their share of water to big landlords as a result their crops sustained losses. They threatened to commit self-immolation on Sept 15 if they were not provided their share of water.

PROTEST: A large number of chowkidars working at different godowns of the food department in the district took out a procession here on Thursday. They staged a demonstration outside the residence of MPA Syed Noor Mohammad Shah in Bhirya.

They also staged a demonstration outside the house of MPA Manzoor Shah in Halani. The chowkidars are working in Padidan, Moro, Noorpur, Darbelo, Kandiaro and Naushahro Feroze for the last ten years. They are demanding regularization of their services and payment of salaries.

SUICIDE: A youth, Bakht Ali, son of Soomar Gadahi, committed suicide by shooting himself from a pistol in Bakhshal Gadahi village, Kandiaro taluka on Thursday. The motive behind suicide is said to be matrimonial affair.

NAZIM: Members of the Bhirya taluka council have accused the nazim of taking bribe from contractors. Taluka Nazim Zafar Rajpar denied the allegation in writing during the council's session on Wednesday.

Haji Mirza Rajpar had alleged during the last session of the council that the nazim was involved in corruption. He said the convener was not behaving properly and giving place to false allegations in minutes.

The convener said there was no clerk or assistant for three years and he was managing office affairs from his own resources. The TMO said that arrears of power bills had been paid and street lights in Bhirya road, Bhirya town, Jalbani and Tharushah would be restored on Thursday.
