KARACHI, Aug 27: China has offered all possible cooperation to Pakistan in developing garment cities, and is ready to jointly market textile products.

This and other matters relating to textile came under discussion in a meeting held on Thursday between visiting vice chairman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Abid Javed Akbar, and Du Yuzhou, chairman China National Textile Industry Council.

According to a message received from Pakistan embassy in Beijing, both the sides discussed proposals for enhancing cooperation in the textile sector with a view to promoting over all trade links.

Abid Javed Akbar sought Chinese cooperation for garment cities in Pakistan, which, he said, would be set up by the government and managed by private sector. He asked China to provide necessary expertise and technology.

The EBP vice-chairman also requested his Chinese counterpart to identify top ranking business and commercial enterprise, which could be potential investors in various sectors in Pakistan.

He stressed upon the need for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and China for joint manufacturing and marketing at global level. He said that textile was the major industry in Pakistan, and promotion of cooperation in this sector would have positive impact on overall trade relations between the two countries.

Du Yuzhou said that China was willing to extend all possible cooperation to Pakistan regarding the proposed garment cities and also joint marketing of textile products. He said Chinese companies would be encouraged to invest in the textile sector in Pakistan. He, however, requested for specific proposals from the Pakistani side.

Later, vice chairman EPB accompanied by the Commercial Counsellor also held detailed discussion with officials of the China Institute of Textile Promotion with a view to sharing Chinese experience of setting up garment cities and also seek possibility of technology transfer from China to Pakistan in apparel sector.

Javed Akbar along with ambassador of Pakistan to Beijing, Riaz Mohammad Khan, attended a Pakistan mango promotion ceremony at the famous SciTech Plaza, Beijing. Pakistani mango exporters also participated in the mango promotion campaign.
