ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: The International Committee of the Red Cross was unable to distribute food to Kabul residents on Saturday, a day after three of its warehouses were hit in US-led air raids, an ICRC official said.

“Today we will not be able to resume our distribution,” ICRC spokesman Mario Musa said. “The food was for the poor disabled people.”

US aircraft inadvertently dropped bombs on Red Cross warehouses in Kabul on Friday, the second time its complex has been hit since the US bombing of Afghanistan began on Oct 7.

The Geneva-based relief agency said the roofs of the buildings were clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem and the attacks violated international humanitarian law.

Mr Musa said three warehouses were destroyed by the attack. Serious damage was caused to loaded trucks parked in the compound, jeopardizing relief work in war-shattered Kabul.—Reuters
