NAWABSHAH, Aug 25: The terminal of inter-city buses, which had been located under the overhead bridge near the railway track inside the city, was shifted to a place on the Sanghar Road, two kilometres off here, on Tuesday.

Protesting against the shifting of the terminal, the local transporters observed a strike and bus-owners, drivers and cleaners held a demonstration on the Sanghar Road by parking their vehicles on both sides of the road. Later, they took out a procession which ended at the local press club.

Talking to newsmen, their leaders, Mohammad Hayat Brohi and Hakim Lashari, alleged that police had arrested six drivers from the Sanghar road and had tortured them. They demanded permission for parking one bus there.

The passengers said that after shifting of bus terminal, they had to pay Rs25 to Rs30 to reach or come from the city. When contacted, District Nazim Faryal Talpur said that a survey was being conducted by the DCO and Nawabshah taluka nazim to find out a suitable place in the city for relocating the terminal.

However, DPO Dr Sarwar Jamali said that the decision to shift the terminal was made by the District Transport Authority, and advised the transporters to call off their strike.
