Published August 20, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Pakistan and Sudan on Thursday developed consensus on 15 articles of the proposed convention for the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries.

Officials told Dawn on Thursday that tax officials of both the countries would discuss the remaining 15 articles of the agreement during the second round to be held in Khartoom.

According to the officials, the date for the next meeting would be finalized at the convenience of both parties. The Sudanese delegation was led by Under-Secretary, general, ministry of finance, Ms Amal Seyid Mohamed Ali Imam, and Pakistan's delegation led by member income tax Salman Nabi.

The convention on avoidance of double taxation, when concluded and come into force, will augment the already existing political, trade and economic relations between the two countries and open new avenues for trade and business to the best interests of business communities of the contracting states.
