FAISALABAD, Aug 12: A proclaimed offender and hardened criminal, who was also involved in snatching weapons and uniforms from policemen, was killed on Wednesday night when his two-wheeler hit another bike during a police chase near Chak 16-JB.

A police party intercepted PO Mumtaz alias Tazo Glahotra, but the accused tried to speed away. Seeing police in hot pursuit, the PO became jittery as a result of which his motorcycle hit with another bike of milkman Zafar Ahmed. The PO and the milkman sustained serious injuries.

They were shifted to Allied Hospital where both of them died. DPO Muhammad Amin Wains said the deceased PO was wanted in more than 40 cases of killing, robbery, dacoity and especially snatching of weapons from the policemen.

He said the outlaws along with his armed men had encircled a raiding police party headed by then ASP Shahzad Sultan in Galohtra village near Chiniot in Nov 2000. Later, the outlaws snatched dozens of official rifles from the policemen and also ripped to shreds their uniforms.

The DPO said the deceased PO was one of the top wanted criminals in Faisalabad and Sargodha ranges and over 40 cases were registered against him in Jhang, Sargodha and Faisalabad districts.

The criminal was operating inter-district gangs of cattle-lifters, robbers and vehicle snatchers in both rural and urban areas of Faisalabad and Jhang district.
