KARACHI, Aug 10: The vice-chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, has reiterated that all justified demands of postgraduate doctors will be fulfilled.

He was speaking at the certificates distribution ceremony on the completion of a 10-week first English proficiency course held by the DUHS at the ENT department of Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

Prof Hameed said efforts were also being made to start stipend for FCPS-II trainees with help of public and private sectors and hope for a positive outcome. As many as 35 postgraduate students of the Dow Medical College successfully completed the said course. Prof Masood Hameed Khan distributed certificates among successful candidates.

Prof Hameed encouraged FCPS-II trainees and assured them that the course would be a regular feature of the varsity. "We are trying to streamline a team of tutors for this course," he said, announcing that Prof Moosa Kamlani will be its director.

He hoped the course would improve the standard and quality of postgraduate studies that would not only enhance proficiency in and command over English language, but also equip young doctors with the skills of presentation and active participation in seminars and discussions.

Prof Moosa Kamlani said the said course's format was designed in a way that all four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking were given equal weight age and importance.

"This is my first experience of teaching a group of doctors, and I am always ready to teach them," he added. Coordinator of the course Dr M Saleem Marfani praised the support of VC Prof Masood Hameed. - PPI
