LAHORE, Oct 27: The Jamiat Mashaikh-i-Pakistan, a component of the Grand Democratic Alliance, denounced on Saturday parties which have launched struggle against the military government at a crucial moment when the country is facing a very serious situation because of the happenings in neighbouring Afghanistan and left with no option but to follow the policy it is following at present.

JMP chief Pir Fazle Haq said at a news conference that by adopting a different policy, Pakistan would have isolated itself from the world community and provided its archrival India an opportunity to launch efforts to have Islamabad declared as a terrorist state.

He said the Pakistan government was still trying to save the innocent people of Afghanistan and it was for this reason that the US had been told to stop bombing during Ramazan or face a reaction from the Islamic world.

Refugees already living in Pakistan for the past two decades and those who were crossing over these days were being provided all possible assistance, the JMP leader said.

He alleged that parties opposed to the government policies happened to be the ones which were averse even to the creation of Pakistan.

Pir Fazle Haq said all parties should shun their differences at this juncture and extend all out support to the government to enable it to handle the situation in a better way. Support to the government, he argued, would also deprive the enemy of an opportunity to exploit the situation.

He said only a broad-based government, with the inclusion of moderate Taliban, could normalize the situation in Pakistan. A setup headed by the Northern Alliance would not be acceptable to Pakistan, he emphasized.

He said US-British attacks on Afghanistan were nothing but terrorism which were causing provocation among the Islamic countries. These attacks, he said, should be brought to an end immediately.

Referring to the rally the Jamaat-i-Islami is scheduled to hold here on Sunday, the JMP chief said no patriotic party or leader would participate in it.
