LAHORE, Aug 6: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Friday resolved to continue efforts to end terrorism and maintain peace in the province. "Efforts are underway to curb terrorism," the CM said at the Police Lines here after attending the funeral prayers of Narowal DPO Tayyab Saeed, who was killed in an encounter.

He said nobody was allowed to disturb the law and order, and added that police were alert to combat any untoward situation. He was all praise for the police officer who sacrificed his life for the commitment with his job and duty.

The chief minister announced Rs5 million compensation for the bereaved family besides a house for his widow and education and health cover for his children. He also announced Rs500,000 each for the two policemen who sustained injuries in the encounter and medals for all of them.

Respected as an honest officer, Tayyab Saeed had been serving Pakistan Navy before joining the police service, reports APP. He led a very simple life and had no house or piece of land.

His family lived in a small government flat in Civil Lines, Lahore. He has left behind a widow and three daughters. His daughters are the students of class nine, five and the youngest is just in prep.
