MIRPURKHAS, Aug 4: Sindh Growers' Development Association president Rais Ahmed Khan and general secretary Shamsuddin Shaikh have said that people whose houses were damaged in last year's rain are still waiting for payment of compensation.

Talking to newsmen in the Citizens' Gymkhana here on Tuesday, they said that due to efforts of district relief committee chairman and provincial minister Shabbir Qaimkhani, compensation to the heirs of the deceased had been paid but people, whose houses had been damaged, were yet to be compensated.

They said that the Sindh finance department had not released relief funds for distribution among the affected people of the district. They called upon Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to take notice of the matter and ensure payment of compensation to rain victims of Mirpurkhas like those of Tharparkar.

SUSPENDED: A surveyor and a Darogha of Kot Ghulam Mohammad sub-division of the irrigation department were suspended by the director of the Nara Canal Area Water Board on Monday on a complaints by farmers of the area. The complaint was made by more than 200 farmers of the Girhore, Samaro and Khipro distributaries against surveyor Ali Dino and Darogha Nawaz Gaho.
