BEIJING, Aug 2: Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro and top Chinese leaders met here on Monday and reiterated their resolve to strengthen the existing strategic partnership between the two countries.

Chinese legislators, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress, reassured China's support to Pakistan for its socio-economic development.

Mr Soomro termed the meeting with Chinese leaders very and said that they agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sector. Both sides underscored their mutual commitment to an enduring and broad-based strategic relationship, he said.

It was decided that parliamentary exchanges and people-to- people contacts would be increased to broaden areas of bilateral cooperation. Matters concerning bilateral cooperation in political and diplomatic fields also came under discussion during the meetings.

Soomro said there was unanimity of views on almost all regional and international issues. It was noted that the two countries needed to mobilize their private sector and give impetus to their trade ties. The Chairman Senate and members of the delegation were feted by the CPPCC chairman. -APP
