LAHORE July 29: A Chinese company has sued Wapda by filing a petition with the Lahore High Court after the authority rejected its three-phase power meters on account of what it called fake reports regarding the authenticity of the product.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Husain Chaudhry, entertaining the Ningbo petition filed through Ch Aitzaz Ahsan advocate, issued notices to Wapda to explain its position.

According to the petition, Ningbo was the lowest bidder in a recently-called Wapda tender for the purchase of three-phase meters. Wapda rejected its offer, stating that the authentication reports regarding the meters were fake and declared company's product technically unresponsive.

However, Wapda counsel Omar Atta Bandayal said this did not deter Ningbo from participating in another bid for the meters, where it again proved to be the lowest bidder.

Meanwhile, a Wapda official in China, after conducting an inquiry, reported that the Ningbo product was not up to the mark. Again, the authority excluded the company from the bidding process and blacklisted it for future bidding.

Ningbo, through Ch Aitzaz Ahsan advocate, submitted that its produce was up to the mark, besides it made the other competitors bring the prices of their products substantially low.

Appearing before the court on Thursday, Ch Aitzaz Ahsan sought time for submitting authenticated documents on his client. The chief justice asked the counsel to submit an application to this effect and adjourned the case for today (Friday). -PPI
