KARACHI, July 28: A man was shot dead while three women of the same family were wounded when armed intruders opened fire at them in Sector-12 of Saeedabad on Wednesday morning.

Police said that armed men entered the house of Haji Rehmat, who was having breakfast with his family members. They opened fire and fled. Haji Rehmat died on the spot while other family members Haleema, Sharifan and Sonia sustained bullet wounds.

The wounded women were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Police suspect personal enmity as the possible motive behind the killing.

SUICIDE: A jobless man committed suicide by setting himself on fire in Orangi Town on Tuesday night. Police said that Ali Ahmed, 40, father of five, was out of work since long and had been suffering from depression.

On Tuesday night, he sprinkled kerosene oil on himself in a fit of depression and set himself on fire. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities, police said.

ACCIDENT: An elderly man died in a hit-and-run accident in Lyari on Wednesday. According to police, a pedestrian, 60, was crossing the road when he was knocked down to death by a speeding minibus. His body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy.

SNATCHED: A reporter of Dawn was deprived of cash at gunpoint by two men in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Tuesday night. Mr Azizullah Sharif was driving through Sir Shah Suliman Road when he was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle.

The armed men demanded keys of the car. As Mr Sharif declined to surrender, they snatched the keys and cash at gunpoint and sped away while throwing the keys at a little distance.
