LARKANA, July 25: A superintendent of police, who was suspended following the kidnapping of a trader and escape of a criminal from a police post, has expressed lack of confidence in a one-man committee formed to investigate his case.

Talking on the telephone to this correspondent on Sunday, SP Agha Tahir voiced fears that the one-man committee, comprising ADIG (investigation) Syed Qurban Shah, would go against him as Mr Shah hailed from Gambat where he had served as SHO.

Demanding an impartial inquiry, he said that a Joint Interrogation Team, comprising members from the Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence and other agencies should be formed as criminal charges had been levelled against him.

He claimed that Abdul Malik Ogahi, who had been arrested from Ghauspur, was involved in the kidnapping of Santosh Kumar, which was evident from the fact that his car was used in the crime, besides another car that belonged to a guard of an influential.

He had unveiled Abdul Malik, who was also involved in the kidnapping of two employees of a pharmaceutical company, he said and added that he had sufficient evidence to prove the charges as he had already covered some 75 per cent of the case.

The SP regretted that his suspension was connected with the escape of a hardened criminal, Mushtaq Kalhoro, from the Bair Sharif police post which fell under the jurisdiction of the Kambar police station and, as such, was not his responsibility.

OUR SUKKUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: A joint operation against bandits by rangers and police continued in Shah Belo for the recovery of kidnapped trader, Santosh Kumar. Personnel of law enforcement agencies cordoned Eidan Bhatar village where bandit Yakoob Sandelo and his 20 accomplices were hiding.
