MMA to move Supreme Court

Published July 24, 2004

KARACHI, July 23: The Sindh High Court's decision on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement's election petition in the petitioner's favour has generated conflicting reactions.

The MQM termed it a victory of justice, truth and fair play, while the MMA expressed dissatisfaction, maintaining that the decision was not according to desire of the people. Welcoming the SHC verdict on a petition connected with the May 12 by-polls, the MQM coordination committee said the verdict had vindicated the stand of the haq parast.

Meanwhile, provincial chief of the MMA and MNA Assadullah Bhutto said that the government's partisan attitude was evident from the fact that the government prosecution, instead of representing the peoples' voice in the court, adopted the Muttahida Quami Movement's (MQM) point of view and advocated in its favour.

He said that MMA would challenge the SHC writ before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, alleging that the MQM had killed 12 innocent activists of the MMA during the by-elections.
