RAWALPINDI, July 15: Two Saudi embassy staff members were booked by the Golra police on charges of fraudulently selling a non-custom duty paid car to a man, the police said.

Chaudhary Muhammad Jamil lodged a complaint with the inspector-general of Islamabad police saying that Khalid al-Zahrani, a Saudi national, and Azam Khan, a Pakistani, who are employed at the Saudi embassy, sold him a car bearing diplomatic registration (CD-52-90). He said they showed the car custom duty-paid.

The complainant claimed that he paid 25 per cent of the total amount as token money to Mr Zahrani. He further claimed that on June 29 he paid the balance amount of $12,000 to Mr Zahrani and got the possession of the vehicle along with some documents.

The two persons promised to provide customs clearance letter to Mr Jamil on the following day, he said. He said the very next day he along with the Saudi national and his Pakistani fellow went to the Customs House where they were told to pay Rs600,000 customs duty to get the clearance letter. On listening it, the two men disappeared, he alleged.

Mr Jamil said he had brought the incident to the notice of the Saudi ambassador and requested him to intervene into the matter. Though the ambassador had directed Mr Khalid and Mr Azam to resolve the issue, they are still avoiding even after the passage of one week.
