ISLAMABAD, July 13: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) chief coordinator and PPP leader, Malik Hakmeen Khan, has warned the government to restrain itself, from what he said, rigging the by-election in Attock.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr Khan said the people in Attock would not allow any misappropriation in the election as about 2,000 youth led by the People's Youth Organization president, Malik Sahahan and its Punjab president, Chaudhry Ayub, would guard every polling station to stop the regime from rigging the elections.

He said when he was MNA from the area, more than 100 villages were supplied electricity and Sanjwal Bridge was constructed which benefited more than 100,000 people. He said he had won this seat in 1970, 1977 and 1988 elections and defeated Sardar Sadiq, the grandfather of Eman Waseem, who has vacated this seat for Shaukat Aziz to contest this election.

He said by nominating Mr Aziz, the regime tried to undermine the people of Attock, however, the democratic forces in the country have displayed wisdom by nominating a consensus candidate.

He said soon the campaign would be announced and international media and analysts would be invited to visit the constituency during the elections and on the polling day so that any effort by the regime to rig the election could be exposed.

Malik Hakmeen Khan welcomed the role of Pakistan Muslim League-N in these elections and said the sacrifices which "we are offering now would not go in vain".
