KARACHI, July 11: The Sindh government has initiated steps to provide computer education, training and Internet facility free of cost to people, especially students , and employees of government and semi-government departments, by setting up community centres.

This was announced by Sindh Minister for Information Technology Syed Mustafa Kamal during a meeting with students of various education institutions from Hyderabad, who called on him at his office on Sunday.

He said, through this programme, not only students but people from various sections of society would benefit. The minister said, the main focus of the programme would be rural and distant areas of the province, since only a few students from these areas get the opportunity to take up IT courses in private computer institutes against huge fees.

The delegation apprised the minister of the lack of facilities for promoting modern IT education. The minister assured the delegates that the government was giving top priority to IT, and his ministry had planned various projects for the purpose.

He said, the government would seek maximum participation of the community and social organisations for the betterment of people. Mr Kamal said, "Our students are very talented, and the only thing they require are opportunities." - APP
