LARKANA, July 11: People from different walks of life on Sunday joined a token hunger strike observed by the Hindu community against the kidnapping a rice trader, Santosh Kumar.

The president of the Pakistan Medical Association, district chapter, Dr Ikram Tunio, the chairman of the Sindh Shahri Ittehad Nisar Shaikh, Lekhraj, Manik Rai, Naval Rai, Naresh Kumar and others observed the hunger strike.

They criticized the police for its failure to recover the kidnapped trader. Meanwhile, the Citizen Action Committee was formed to formulate a strategy to launch a protest movement in the district for the recovery of Santosh Kumar. The Hindu Panchayat, Dadu also announced its support for the committee.

Inquiry ordered: The district police officer has ordered an inquiry into a police raid on the Agani village and arrest of nine villagers. The inquiry was ordered after the villagers held a demonstration outside the press club and DPO office here. They accused DSP, Saddar, Akhtar Chandio, and the raiding party of trespassing into the houses of Syeds and taking away household articles and gold ornaments.
