GUJRANWALA, July 6: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA) approved its budget of Rs292.6 million and Rs149.6 million respectively for the fiscal year 2004-05 here on Tuesday.

The budget was approved at a meeting presided over by city Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, who is Wasa and GDA governing body chairman, while Wasa managing director Bashir Tarar and GDA director-general Azhar Syal and other officers participated in it.

The meeting was told that Rs20 million were allocated for the construction of sewerage. The meeting gave approval for the construction of commercial plaza and shops on state land and residence of Wasa managing director in GDA plaza.

The meeting recommended that new vacancy of finance director be created while Wasa and GDA drivers and telephone operators be promoted in the next scale in accordance with the law.

BAIL: The local anti-terrorism court No 1 granted interim bail of main accused of Madina Syadan (Gujrat) case till July 11 and issued a notice to police on Tuesday. Accused Syed Fazeelat Husain Shah was involved in killing of 19 people and police could not arrest him. He appeared before the court along with his counsel and got interim bail.

The judge ordered police to produce the record on the next hearing. It is stated that police had already arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the murders and got their physical remand.
