HYDERABAD, July 2: A local journalist, living near the Wapda residential colony here, staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Friday to protest against disconnection of power supply to his house.

Nazeer Ahmed Leghari said that he had been living without electricity since February 9 when the line was disconnected, although he had been paying the bills regularly.

Mr Leghari alleged that Hesco wanted to eject him from his small house although big landlords, government functionaries and other influential people had also built their houses in the same area.

He threatened that if power supply was not restored to his residence, within 24 hours, he would go on a hunger strike till death.

JAMAL ABRO: The Sindhi Language Authority has expressed grief over the demise of renowned short story writer Jamal Abro. In a joint statement issued here on Friday, SLA chairman Dr Mohammad Qasim Bughio and secretary Majeed Burfat said the vacuum created due to his death would be difficult to fill for a long time.

They said Mr Abro was a trend setter in short story writing and his services in the cause of Sindhi language and literature could not be forgotten. Meanwhile, the Peace and Development Forum at a meeting held here on Friday paid tribute to the late Abro for services he had rendered in the cause of Sindhi language and literature.

Speaking on the occasion, forum president Dr Mazhar Memon said Sindh had lost a great writer in Mr Abro. The forum expressed condolence to members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
