KHAIRPUR, July 1: Hesco employees continued their protest for the second consequent day here on Thursday against suspension of Hesco Central Labour Union chairman Wali Mohammad Leghari.

Hundreds of workers gathered at the Old Power House where union leaders delivered speeches. They blamed Hesco chief engineer, superintending engineer (Sukkur subdivision) and deputy technical director for creating unrest among the employees and termed the suspension harassment.

The leaders threatened to extend the protest if their demands were not accepted. Due to the protest, sub divisional offices remained closed and power consumers in the four subdivisions returned home without having their complaints attended to. Meanwhile, Hesco employees of Gambat, Ranipur and Setharja held demonstrations to protest against the suspension.

BOOKED: Some 14 people were booked for attacking a person late on Wednesday night. Complainant Sikander Solangi alleged in an FIR that accused Aijaz, Mohammad Rafiq, Jameel, Mohammad Bakhsh, Mohammad Ismail, Rehmatullah, Nisar Ahmed, Raza Mohammad, Mazhar, Haji Mohammad, Matal, Subhan Ali, Nisar and Ghulam Raza attacked him while he was working in his fields in Shahnawaz village.

It was said that the incident was the outcome of some water rotation dispute. Meanwhile, four police officials of Therhi were booked for attacking and looting a person.

Complainant Azizur Rehman said in his FIR that on Tuesday evening, Therhi police post in-charge head constable Hubdar, Nazir Soomro and constables Mithal and Zameer took him to the police post and looted him besides beating him up at the instigation of Habibur Rehman. On registration of the case, Khairpur DPO suspended the accused policemen.
