BAHAWALPUR, June 23: The PML-N has strongly condemned the registration of two criminal cases against former MNA and party's district president Chaudhry Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja at the behest of the District Nazim.

The voice was raised by PML-N office bearers at a largely attended meeting held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Punjab PML-N vice-president Samiullah Chaudhry.

Giving vent to his disquiet over the registration of false criminal cases against the party's district president, Mr Samiullah alleged that District Nazim Tariq Cheema had misused his authority.

A resolution adopted at the meeting said that Tariq Cheema, due to political rivalry with Mumtaz Jajja, had got registered two separate and false cases against him.

It said that Mumtaz Jajja by scrutinizing the revenue record had rightly pointed out flaws in it. Had he not checked the record, a number of genuine applicants could not have been included in the list of applicants for the allotment of agriculture land under the chief minister's scheme in Yazman tehsil.

The resolution also warned the revenue patwaris that they should not politicize the issue. It further said that the District Nazim and his aides were threatening and instigating the patwaris to lodge protest over the incident just to force police to arrest Mr Jajja and his companions.

The resolution also warned the District Nazim to avoid political confrontation. The meeting also called upon the police officials to investigate the cases on merit to meet the requirement of justice.

It may be mentioned that the Yazman police on the report of patwari Ashraf had registered cases a week back against Mumtaz Jajja for snatching revenue record from him.

KILLED: An alleged dacoit was killed and his son sustained injuries in a shootout with villagers during a dacoity bid in a house at Chak 186-Murad near Hasilpur on Wednesday.

Four villagers also suffered injuries in the crossfire. Villagers also succeeded in nabbing two dacoits, who were handed over to the police. The deceased dacoit was identified as Ghulam Rasool of Burewala while the injured was identified as Sajjad.

Meanwhile, three armed men injured one Fida Hussain on resistance during a dacoity attempt in a house at Muhallah Aam Khas. Kotwali police have registered a case against the fleeing dacoits.
