RAWALPINDI, May 21: The US government will give financial assistance to the district government for provision of various facilities in public and private schools and improvement of teaching standards.

The US embassy’s first secretary, Andrew B. Haviland, while talking to District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani here on Tuesday, said the US was providing the assistance under its education programme.

Under the programme, the schools in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and different districts of Karachi will be provided furniture and other required facilities and the teachers be trained to improve their skills.

In Rawalpindi district, about 30 schools located in the sub-urban areas have been identified for the assistance. The programme will later be extended to other schools in the rural areas. The teachers’ training will start in August.

The district Nazim apprised the diplomat of various initiatives being taken by the government for the improvement of educational institutions.
