ISLAMABAD, June 16: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf and discussed matters relating to the national media.

Secretary information Syed Anwar Mahmood was also present during the meeting which was held at the President's Parliament Chamber. Sheikh Rashid while giving details of the meeting told media persons that the president had directed the ministry to make efforts for the effective projection of the concepts based on enlightened moderation in Islam.

The president said the ministry of information in consultation with the prime minister should arrange a meeting of the All-Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and the representative associations of journalists to help resolve the issue of the implementation of 7th Wage Board Award in the newspaper industry.

Gen Musharraf highlighted the need that the national media should adopt a responsible approach in the matters of national importance. Sheikh Rashid said he gave a briefing to the president on media-related matters besides presenting a report on the developments made so far in the cross-media ownership sector. -APP
