RAWALPINDI, June 9: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Wednesday sought para-wise comments from the inspector general of police, Punjab, deputy inspector general and district police officer (DPO), Rawalpindi , in a petition related to the alleged refusal of the administration of the Police Training School (PTS) to vacate the land allotted by the government for the construction of a new judicial complex.

A division bench, comprising Justice Akhtar Bashir and Justice Mohammad Muzammil Khan, also asked the principal of the training school and the deputy inspector general training central police officer, Lahore, to submit their para-wise comments before Monday when the court would take up the case.

The court took the move after admitting a petition filed by the District Bar Association (DBA) including its president, Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah, vice president, Abdur Rashid Orakzai, secretary general, Mumtaz Ahmed and joint secretary, Sajid Yousaf Mirza.

In their petition, the DBA officials contended that the administration of the police training school was not vacating the land (Over 85 Kanals) presently housing the school, reserved by the government for the construction of a judicial complex at the old jail site.

They contended that the LHC had transferred the land to the district courts authorities more than six months ago. However, due to the delaying tactics of the administration, work on the project could not be initiated.

The delay in the project was causing severe problems to the people and lawyers as the existing judicial complex could not house all the courts owing to which some of the courts were lying scattered in various parts of the city.

They further contended that the district courts authorities had also received the allotment letter. Besides, the chief secretary, Punjab, had also sent an official letter to the PTS administration on May 8, asking it to hand over the possession of the land to the Registrar High Court, Lahore, instantly.
