KARACHI, June 8: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has shipped 160 gas meters to Germany out of total supply order of 500 Renus G 1.6 type of gas meters.

The SSGC has claimed that the German company, Desaga, has shown complete satisfaction over the quality of meters. Shipment of the rest 340 meters will be completed shortly, says a spokesman of the company.

The company's statement was, however, silent over the foreign exchange earning through the shipment of meters. SSGC is looking forward to export orders to extend the meter manufacturing business besides generating foreign exchange for the country.

The gas meter manufacturing plant was established in 1975, under the licence from a French company M/s Actairis, formerly known as Schlumberger. The annual production capacity of the said plant is about 310,000 meters.

The meter plant is the only one in Pakistan of its kind and is fully meeting the total demand of both of the utility companies SSGC and SNGPL. The plant has immense potential for further development as indicated by introduction of a new version of G 1.6 meter and moved forward its deletion programme for the measuring unit with the help of local vendors.
