ISLAMABAD, June 7: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Mohammad Ijazul Haq met Imam and Khateeb of Haram Sharif Makkah Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al Subayyal and conveyed him good wishes of President Gen Pervez Musharraf , Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and the people of Pakistan.

According to a message received here on Monday, during his meeting with Sheikh Subayyal, the minister discussed a number of issues, including challenges facing the Ummah. Imam Subayyal also hosted lunch on this occasion.

The minister briefed Imam Subayyal about Pakistan's efforts for achieving Muslim unity and stressed the need for adopting an enlightened approach to dispel the misperception about Islam and its followers.

Referring to President Musharraf's suggestion regarding the restructuring of the Organization of Islamic Conference, he said it would make it a vibrant Muslim forum to meet the challenges facing the Ummah.

Imam Sheikh Subayyal said Muslims should promote the true message of Islam, adding Islam laid a greater emphasis on the democratic spirit of mankind. He added that the leadership and the people of Saudi Arabia valued the bonds between the two countries. -APP
