LAHORE, June 7: The Punjab University's senior faculty on Monday discussed the latest version of 'Model Tenure Track Process Statutes' sent by the Higher Education Commission.
The meeting presided over by vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood resolved that PU law faculty dean Prof Dr Dil Muhammad Malik should give a detailed presentation on the MTTPS.
Prior to the meeting, it was learnt, respective faculties also held separate meetings and discussed the MTTPS document and HEC chairman Prof Dr Attaur Rehman's letter regarding the implementation of the tenure track system in universities and degree-awarding institutions.
The meeting chaired by the VC also discussed the clarifications made by the HEC chairman with reference to the appointment of existing faculty members on tenure track.
It objected to the condition that required a full professor to have 11-year post-PhD teaching/research experience in a recognized university or a postgraduate institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a national or international organization.
The meeting also expressed its reservations about a condition that offered only the existing salary to the faculty member, who is approved for probationary appointment on tenure track as an existing faculty member.
The MTTPS document says the existing faculty member after selection on probationary appointment on tenure track, will continue in his/her current position and the salary.
Only upon successful tenure review, the candidate will be entitled to get a tenured position in the university at the higher tenure track pay scale. Most of the senior faculty members, however, suggested that the existing faculty member, who will be approved for probationary appointment on tenure track as an existing faculty member, should be given salaries according to the tenure track system.
