FAISALABAD, June 1: A red alert is sounded in the Punjab to avoid any untoward incident following the killings in Karachi. This was claimed by Saadatullah Khan, the inspector general of Punjab police , while speaking to the representatives of traders, industrialists and elite of the town here on Tuesday.

The IGP said security arrangements had been tightened as a precautionary measure to foil the nefarious designs of terrorists. He said efforts were being made to smash the gangs of criminals operating in different parts of the province especially in Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura and Okara.

He warned that the lethargic, corrupt and inefficient policemen would have to face the music under the new police rule. The IG also visited the Gulberg police station and inspected the record.

DEMO: Hundreds of activists of the Shia organizations staged a demonstration on the Jhang Road here on Tuesday against the Karachi imambargah killings. The protesters who gathered at the local airport became infuriated when they received the coffin of a Shia youth.

Carrying the body of Syed Israr Ahmed, they chanted slogans against the government. They blocked traffic, pelted stones on vehicles and burnt tyres. They alleged that the government had failed to round up the terrorists involved in the Karachi incidents. The protest demonstration was addressed by the Shia leaders at Clock Tower.

KILLED: A young boy was killed while two other were seriously injured when armed men sprayed bullets on them over enmity at Chak 266-RB in Khurrianwala police station precinct on Monday night.

Reports said Jawed Ahmad along with his armed accomplices intercepted his old rivals Arshad, Zulfiqar and Akram at a village bazaar and opened indiscriminate fire on them.

All the three persons suffered serious wounds. Arshad died on his way to hospital while the condition of Zulfiqar and Akram is stated to be critical. Area police have registered a case against the suspects.
