LAHORE, May 20: The chief justice of the Lahore High Court on Monday taking up seven applications of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for transfer of appeals against Rawalpindi and Attock Accountability Courts decisions allowed transfer of appeals.
The appeals were filed by ex-federal minister Haji Nawaz Khokhar, Shahmir Khan, Sarwar Khan, Amin Jan, Tanvir Khan, Gul Muhammad Abbasi and Sadaqat Saeed Malik.
Dr Babar Awan, the counsel for the appellants, could not appear due to other important assignments and Pir Masood Chishti appearing on behalf of Dr Awan said the appellants had no objection on transfer of appeals to the Rawalpindi appellate bench.
The CJ also reserved judgement on two applications of the NAB for transfer of appeals of Rawalpindi’s ex-assistant director education Malik Abdur Rashid and his co-accused Asif Mehmood. Sardar Khurram Khosa, the counsel for accused, opposed the plea and contended to hear the appeals at principal seat of the LHC.
PLEAS DISPOSED OF: The Lahore High Court on Monday disposed of two petitions after becoming infructous filed against change of groups of two civil services officers.
Deputy Attorney-General Sher Zaman Khan appearing before the court informed that the government was not interested to change the groups of the petitioners and they could continue in their present groups and the government was not willing to disturb their groups.
The petitions filed by Asma Roohi of the Income Tax Group and Rehan Ahmad of the Office Management Group submitted that they passed the competition examination in 1994 and they were appointed in the groups on Azad Kashmir quota.
They submitted that when they were under training they were served with a letter that their groups were being changed and Asma was allotted the Office Management Group and Rehan was allotted information department. On it, they approached the court and the court had granted a stay.—APP
