HYDERABAD, May 28: Muttahida Qaumi Movement legislators from the district have condemned the alleged irresponsible attitude of irrigation officials which resulted in the death of over one dozen people and hospitalization of thousands of others.

In a statement issued from the Muttahida zonal office, the MNAs and MPAs of the party refused to accept the argument of the irrigation officials that they had opened gates of the Manchhar Lake due to the threat of a cyclone.

They said that to hide their irresponsible action, the officials were blaming the situation on other departments. The Muttahida leaders demanded severe punishment to the irrigation officials for releasing poisonous water into the River Indus without prior information to relevant quarters.

He said that a judicial inquiry should be held in the matter through a high court judge. The others who spoke on the occasion included Shafqat Ahmad, Shamsuddin Soomro and Abdul Jabbar Khaskheli.
