BAHAWALPUR, May 24: A tribute was paid to late Nawab of Bahawalpur Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V at a number of functions held here on Monday to observe his 38th death anniversary.

The speakers while referring to the late Nawab's era eulogised his services for the cause of Pakistan, Islam and people of the defunct Bahawalpur state. The main function was organized by Bazm-i-Azad and Bazm-i-Dilshauq at S.D High School, Bahawalpur Hall.

About the distribution of movable and immovable property of the late Nawab among his legal heirs, the speakers expressed the desire for the preservation of Abbasi family's heritage for future generations.

One individual, Gulzar Ahmad Ghauri, organized an exhibition of the defunct state's rare photographs which included a memorable picture of late Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Abbasi with Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The exhibition, held at the GPO Park, attracted a large number of people. Local newspapers published special supplements and Radio Pakistan, Bahawalpur, transmitted special programmes in this regard.

PPP: The PPP high command has announced a new organization of its women wing for the Bahawalpur city and district. According to a press release issued here on Monday, the divisional and late district president Begum Hameeda Ghauri, a PPP founder member, was replaced by Begum Sajida Malik. While Begum Hameeda Ghauri would be the district organizer in the new set up.

Other new office-bearers will be: Senior vice-president Nadira Ashfaq, vice-presidents Quratulain and Razia Sultana, district secretary-general Mussarat Wahab, additional secretary Rabeel Ashfaq and information secretary Mehvish Naz.

Office-bearers of the Bahawalpur city are: President Begum Gulshan Durrani and secretary-general Begum Asia Jawad.
