FAISALABAD, May 4: The district council has finalized a plan for the provision of motorcycles and wireless sets to police, amid objections by some councillors as well as audit officials of the district government.

A council meeting, presided over by Naib Nazim Nasarullah Ghuman on Tuesday, decided to send the plan to the Punjab government for approval. Sharafat Ali Khan Khatak presented the plan through a resolution. He said the plan would be launched at the union council level.

He said a committee had been constituted which would approach the authorities concerned to get the plan approved. Shafique Mughal, Naeem, Dilbar Hameed and others stood up on their seats and claimed that the plan was illegal as it was being implemented in some union councils without approval by the authorities concerned.

They claimed that scores of UC Nazims had already paid Rs15,000 each for a wireless set to the local police but the officials concerned reportedly purchased a set worth of Rs7,000 only.

However, Nasarullah Ghuman presented the resolution before the meeting which approved it with an overwhelming majority and decided to send it to the Punjab government for formal approval.

Anwari Begum presented another resolution, claiming that the management of a local school had introduced co-education, which was a violation of the rules. She said she had approached the high-ups of the district government but they refused to entertain the complaint.

The Naib Nazim directed the education department to present a detailed report in the next meeting in this regard. Later, the Naib Nazim adjourned the meeting for an indefinite period.

SUICIDE: A drug addict committed suicide in the People's Colony area on Tuesday. Jawed demanded money from his family who refused. Jawed cut his wrist-veins. He was taken to hospital where he died because of excessive bleeding.
