ISLAMABAD, May 2: Senior adviser to the Punjab chief minister Mowahid Hussain on Sunday said lack of response from the Islamic world was causing tragedies like massacre of 118 Muslims in Thailand.

Speaking at a function organized by Pakistan Socio-Democratic Society (PSDS) here, Mr Hussain termed the incident a large scale violation of human rights which demanded a strong reaction from the Muslim world.

He criticized the insensitivity of the Muslim world towards the massacre of defenceless Muslims by the armed forces in Thailand. He said the United Nations also had a responsibility to help resolve the international disputes and problems around the world. "But in practice the organization seems to have no role and it has become a tool of big powers," Mr Hussain said.

"The Muslims are being projected as violent, extremists and terrorists after 9/11 by the West only because there is no Muslim media to counter this one-sided propaganda. Whereas the reality is that western policies are more extremist in term of use of brutal force," he emphasized.

"Not too distant in the past the idea of challenging powers like America and the Soviet Union was simply unthinkable. But now people, individuals and groups are challenging America as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is happening only because injustice is not being remedied and exploitation of the poor is continuing with no end in sight," Mr Hussain said.
