LAHORE, April 27: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to collect data about inadmissible immigrants travelling by foreign airlines to check whether the airlines are fined for transporting such passengers.

Under the law, an airline is fined for transporting passengers abroad on invalid documents. The PIA is fined millions of rupees annually for transporting inadmissible immigrants abroad.

Those who travel on documents that have been tampered with or those who seek asylum after reaching abroad on the pretext of misplaced documents, fall under inadmissible immigrants' category.

A senior FIA officer told Dawn on Tuesday that collection of inadmissible immigrants' data from foreign airlines would also help the agency analyze illegal immigrants' travel routes.

He said the agency had also decided to issue cards to foreigners to ensure a double entry system in the country for security reasons. All passengers, both locals and foreigners, are registered under a computerized Personal Identification Secured and Comparison Evaluation System (PISCES).

IMMIGRATION CELL: As many as 13 officials of the immigration cell were repatriated on Tuesday due to their lack of computer skills. The FIA has made it compulsory for all immigration staff in the country to be expert in computer operation as they have to register passengers under PISCES. Meanwhile, some 12 Bangladeshis were denied entry here on invalid travel documents.
