SIALKOT, April 22: Students of the fifth, seventh and eighth classes are anxiously waiting to get textbooks, which are currently unavailable in the markets in many parts of the district.

The affected places are Sialkot city, Cantonment, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Chawinda, Badiana and adjoining areas. Booksellers claim that the books are not being supplied to markets by the Punjab Textbook Board, Lahore, for unknown reasons.

The students and their parents have expressed concern over the unavailability of books, urging the education department authorities to look into the matter without delay.

TAX COLLECTION: Income tax commissioner Sardar Irshad Shaheen has said the Central Board of Revenue has decided to bring about some revolutionary changes in the tax collection system.

The decision has been taken to give incentives to defaulters, besides bringing maximum evaders under the tax net through the simplified self-assessment scheme, he said.

Speaking at a meeting of the local traders, industrialists and exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Irshad Shaheen announced formation of an advisory committee, comprising officials of the income tax, SCCI and the tax bar association, for early solution to businessmen's problems. SCCI President Tahir Majid Kapur, senior vice-president Zahid Latif Malik and vice-president Mansoor Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
