KARACHI, April 16: A young man and his infant daughter were killed and his wife and brother were wounded when their suspected relatives attacked them in Shah Latif Town in the small hours of Friday.

The killing was reportedly in revenge for the victim's wife Lal Bibi's rejection of a marriage proposal. She had refused to marry her cousin Allah Bux and instead married her maternal cousin Umeed Ali.

Police said the whole family of Umeed Ali, his wife Lal Bibi and their six-month-old daughter Sameena were asleep when attacked. Umeed Ali's brother Mehboob Ali was also asleep in the next room when several armed men barged into the house in Sector-C of Shah Latif Town.

They opened fire, killing Umeed Ali and his infant daughter on the spot. They attacked Lal Bibi and Mehboob Ali with a dagger and wounded them.

The police said Mehboob Ali lodged an FIR nominating Allah Bux and three brothers of Lal Bibi for the crime. The two bodies and the wounded were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre by Edhi ambulances, the police said.
