SYDNEY, April 14: Australia pace bowler Glenn McGrath has recovered from a persistent ankle injury and is hoping to resume his international career next month. McGrath has not played since last July, but Australia's chairman of selectors, Trevor Hohns, said he was available for Australia's tour of Zimbabwe next month.
"Glenn is 100 percent fit and raring to go," Hohns told the Daily Telegraph on Wednesday. "He has sorted out a few problems with his bowling that he probably found when he came back." McGrath, 34, is Australia's most successful paceman with 430 wickets from 95 Tests but has been plagued by injuries for the past two seasons.
He underwent two operations on his left ankle during his latest eight-month break and tried in vain to make it back in time for Australia's recent tour of Sri Lanka. He was left out because of a lack of match practice but has since played several matches in the Sydney club competition.
"I suppose it would have been ideal for Glenn to play a couple more games but it wasn't to be," Hohns said. "We have to make a judgment on what we have got." Australia's squad for the tour will be announced next week. -Reuters
