SUKKUR, April 14: The acting chairman of All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industry has complained to the Hesco chief about unannounced power load shedding throughout Sindh and especially in Sukkur.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Mohammad Haroon Memon talked to Tariq Arshad by telephone and told him that loadshedding was often being observed from 9am to 3pm which were peak hours for business activities.
The Hesco chief told him that he had directed the company officials to stop load shedding in the urban areas and, if necessary, observe shutdown for maintenance or repair work from six in morning to 12 noon. Mr Memon told the Hesco chief that with the advent of summer, the Hesco officials had started loadshedding for six to nine hours.
He said that when the Hesco officials were asked, they said that shutdown was being observed for maintenance or repair work. The traders leader said that it was a lie and the officials resorted to lengthy shutdowns to conceal power theft.
PROTEST: Hundreds of villagers staged A sit-in on the National Highway in Adilpur, Ghotki district, on Monday to protest against power loadshedding. The protesters blocked the highway for three hours which resulted into a massive traffic jam. They said that since the advent of summer, Hesco had been resorting to loadshedding for 12 to 16 hours in the area.
The protesters demanded the termination of services of SDO Raj Kumar, alleging that influential people of the area were involved in electricity theft with his connivance.
ARRESTED: Four people were arrested on Tuesday night by the Jacobabad police on the charges of preparing fake identity cards and passports in the Civil Lines police station jurisdiction.
The police on a tip-off raided a photostat shop on DCO Road in Jacobabad and arrested four persons. Blank identity cards, stamps and forms were recovered from their possession. Those arrested were Pardeep Kumar, Santosh Kumar, a naib qasid of Nadra, Jacobabad, Abdul Ghani Soomro and Niaz Ahmed Buriro.
The police registered a case against the accused under sections 255, 261, 468, 420 and 409 of the PPC. During interrogation, the accused told the police the names of their four accomplices - Abdul Wahab Buriro, Azizullah Katohar, Abdul Waheed Katto and Ashiq alias Dodo Dayo.
