KARACHI, April 14: A godown guard was found dead in the SITE area on Wednesday. Police said that they were informed by somebody from the neighbourhood that foul smell was emanating from a godown (Plot No. 8/10) , and when they reached the area they found a four-day old corpse of Mohammad Jameel Khan, 25, who used to reside at the same place.

The police said that he was stabbed and the reason behind the murder could be personal enmity. He was from Swat.

ARREST: Police arrested a carjacker after an exchange of fire at Sir Shah Suliman Road. The police said that an armed suspect tried to hijack a car (AEF-492) from a woman, Hawa.

As she raised alarm a police mobile rushed to the spot ensuing exchange of fire. The police said that the suspect identified as Arif was injured in the crossfire and had been admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

ROBBERY: A clinic at Hilal-i-Ahmer, Clifton, was robbed on Tuesday night, police said. The police said that an ECT machine and Rs35,000 were taken away by the burglars from the clinic of a psychiatrist, Dr Haroon Ahmed.

The police said that the premises was under the surveillance of a private security agency. An official, quoting a civilian guard at the Hilal-i-Ahmer, said that around 11 pm personnel of the private security came asking for room No. 13 and then pasted their sticker at the door.

They left the place without informing the police. The SHO claimed that they have picked up a suspect from the premises of the building, who was being interrogated.

FIRE: A major fire broke out in a godown near Old Haji Camp on Wednesday morning. Chief fire officer of the CDGK, Kazim Ali, told Dawn the fire broke out in a godown containing bulk of old cotton clothes meant for Lunda bazaar.

Eleven fire-tenders from the entire city were called in to control the fire which was finally brought under control by 5 am. A man was also injured when the wall of the godown collapsed.

The godown had loose and faulty wiring which might have caused the fire. However, residents were claiming that someone had thrown a cigarette from a nearby roof top, a fire official said. Losses are estimated to be in millions of rupees.
