BAHAWALPUR, April 13: Students preparing themselves for the intermediate annual examination scheduled to begin on April 24 are spending sleepless nights these days due to delay in the decision on their plea by the Punjab boards of intermediate and secondary education.
Two FSc girl students had sought removal of disparity in the question papers of local boards and the federal board. The Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur Bench, has already given verdict in the favour of the students.
A number of students, while talking to Dawn here on Tuesday, said they had not been issued the date-sheet or roll number slips so far due to which they were facing mental unrest.
It is learnt that the board officials are awaiting the final decision of the Punjab Committee of Chairmen Boards, which was meeting today (Wednesday) in Lahore. PCCB chairman Dr M Aslam Ghauri will preside over the meeting. The LHC had given verdict on the writ petitions of two local girl candidates last month, but the Punjab's eight boards have done nothing so far.
PROTEST: The All-Pakistan Clerical Staff Association, Punjab, has announced that it will start a protest campaign from April 15 (Thursday) to press the government for the acceptance of their demands.
According to an announcement made on Tuesday, the APCA members would begin their protest with the hoisting of black flags at their respective offices on April 15. A week later they would observe a pen-down strike in their respective offices and hunger strike on April 29.
Protest rallies would be staged on May 13 and 20 in the length and breadth of the country. The APCA further announced that coffin-clad rallies would be taken out on May 27 while on June 3 a complete strike would be observed, which would be followed by the central protest demonstration in Rawalpindi the same day. The association is demanding increase in salaries and other allowances.
CRITICISM: Former PML-N MNA Mian Aqeelur Rahman has condemned the conviction of PML acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said justice was not meted out to Mr Hashmi.
